Maryland Energy Administration Helping Florida Residents with Hurricane Michael Recovery

Baltimore, MD – The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) has sent staff to support emergency services and recovery efforts for the State of Florida after landfall of Hurricane Michael. Florida has requested personnel to relieve members of the State Fuels Operation (ESF 12-Fuels) for 24-hour staffing. MEA staff will respond to life supporting critical emergency fuel requests from October 11 – October 18. Support of emergency staff is critical to ensure all working staff members are rested and prepared to help during extended response operations.

“Maryland is proud to offer relief support for those impacted by severe weather incidents or other emergencies,” stated MEA Director Mary Beth Tung.  “MEA constantly updates the training and readiness of its team for emergencies because energy restoration after storms or other disruptions is vital to maintaining safety services to Maryland residents,” concluded Tung.

In September of 2017, Governor Larry Hogan sent support from multiple Maryland agencies to assist with both Irma and Harvey relief. Participating agencies included: Maryland National Guard, Maryland Emergency Management Agency, MEA, Maryland Department of Commerce, Maryland Department of Human Services, the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Labor, Licensing, and Regulation.
