How to Maximize Your Wood and Pellet Stove Grant

Wood and pellet stoves for sale today have vastly improved features for safety and efficiency. New stoves produce almost no smoke, minimal ash, and require less fuel. Older stoves can release 15 to 30 grams of smoke per hour, while new certified shows release no more than 4.5 grams per hour.

The State of Maryland provides grants to help Maryland residents upgrade their heating options.  Clean burning wood and pellet stoves displace electric, non-natural gas fossil fuel heating systems. MEA has a two-tier incentive award for each stove category.

In order to qualify for the maximum grant award from the state, please be sure to follow all of the grant requirements. Stoves must meet the particulate requirement AND have a published efficiency rating. Emission and particulate standards for the state of Maryland are more restrictive than the Federal standards. Be sure to know the grant requirements before you buy.

Permits are required for new and replacement wood and pellet stoves. All grant applications must obtain any relevant permits before submitting an application.  For a list of Maryland county permitting offices, click here. Grants will not be issued to applicants who do not receive the proper permits for stoves.
