Maryland Energy Administration Announces the FY22 Public Facility Solar Grant Program

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) is pleased to announce the opening of the Fiscal Year 2022 (FY22) Public Facility Solar Grant Program on July 29, 2021. This program provides grant funding to State, county or municipal government entities to support the planning and installation of solar arrays on the existing infrastructure of public facilities.

In FY22, $2,000,000 is available for this competitive grant program. Grant assistance is available in two distinct Areas of Interest (AOI): AOI-1 provides funds for purchased systems, and AOI-2, which provides funds for 3rd party owned systems. AOI-1 and AOI-2 are available in each of two application windows. Grants of up to $125,000 are available for purchased solar systems. Third-party owned rooftop arrays may be awarded up to $200,000, while third-party owned solar canopies may be awarded up to $250,000.

Applications are considered during two distinct application periods. Applications for Round 1 are due no later than Monday, November 15, 2021. Applications for Round 2 are due no later than Thursday, February 17, 2022. Projects must meet all eligibility requirements to be considered for award funding. Full program information and application materials can be found in the program’s Funding Opportunity Announcement

In FY21, MEA provided $1,779,767 to build eleven projects in Baltimore (2), Howard (6) and Montgomery Counties (2), as well as the Town of Berlin (1). These projects were made possible by the FY21 Public Facility Solar Grant Program funded by the Strategic Energy Investment Fund. A full list of projects can be found here.
