Maryland Energy Administration Commercial & Industrial Grant Program Open for Applications

By Caitlin Madera
C & I Program Manager

The Maryland Energy Administration (“MEA”) is pleased to announce the opening of the FY19 Commercial and Industrial Grant Program. MEA will provide competitive grant awards to Maryland commercial entities that seek to improve the energy efficiency of their existing structures, or install energy efficient technologies that exceed code-minimum standards in to-be-constructed facilities. The C&I Program provides grant awards to commercial, industrial, and nonprofit enterprises in Maryland’s commercial and industrial sector to assist with energy efficiency projects that will reduce their electricity consumption by at least 15%. To encourage the deepest possible energy savings, award amounts will be calculated at rates based upon three (3) tiers of electricity savings:

Existing Facilities

    • Tier 1 – Corresponds to 15% – 20% reduction in overall electricity usage. Incentive Level: Up to 30% of net total project cost (after the deduction of incentives, rebates, and other leveraged funds), or $150,000, whichever is lower;
    • Tier 2 – Corresponds to 20.1% – 25% reduction in overall electricity usage.  Incentive Level: Up to 40% of net total project cost (after the deduction of incentives, rebates, and other leveraged funds), or $175,000, whichever is lower; or,
    • Tier 3 – Corresponds to 25.1%+ reduction in overall electricity usage. Incentive Level: Up to 50% of net total project cost (after the deduction of incentives, rebates, and other leveraged funds), or $200,000, whichever is lower.

To-Be-Constructed Facilities

    • Tier 1 – Corresponds to 15% – 20% reduction in overall electricity usage.  Incentive Level: Up to 30% of Net Project Incremental Cost (defined as Total Cost minus all other incentives, rebates, and leveraged funds AND the cost of energy code-minimum technology, equipment, or building materials/envelope measures), or $150,000, whichever is lower;

    • Tier 2 – Corresponds to 20.1% – 25% reduction in overall electricity usage. Incentive Level: Up to 40% of Net Project Incremental Cost (defined as Total Cost minus all other incentives, rebates, and leveraged funds AND the cost of energy code-minimum technology, equipment, or building materials/envelope measures), or $175,000, whichever is lower;

    • Tier 3 – Corresponds to 25.1%+ reduction in overall electricity usage.    Incentive Level: Up to 50% of Net Project Incremental Cost (defined as Total Cost minus all other incentives, rebates, and leveraged funds AND the cost of energy code-minimum technology, equipment, or building materials/envelope measures), or $200,000, whichever is lower.

Applications are due to MEA via online application portal by 11:59 P.M. on Monday, December 17, 2018. Awards will be issued on a competitive basis after careful review by MEA.
