By Caitlin Madera, Energy Program Manager
The next round of Maryland Smart Energy Communities (MSEC) program for Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 is here, read up on the new grant now. The FY19 program budget is $500,000 and will be divided between new communities and existing MSEC communities. Important to point out that the FY19, program will only award funds for energy efficiency. The mission of the MSEC program is to have local governments adopt policies and commit to them for the long term, leading to sustained energy savings and additional opportunities for renewable energy development. Any Maryland local government (counties and incorporated towns, cities) can become a MSEC. Local governments participating in the Smart Energy Community program become eligible for grant funding from the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) to be used for energy-related projects.
