Secretary Bassette to Give Commencement Address at Bowie State University
Secretary Gail Bassette will address the 425 graduates of Bowie State University at the 2015 winter commencement on Friday, December 18, 2015 at 10 a.m. in the Leonidas James Physical Education Complex, 14000 Jericho Park Road, Bowie.
A member of Governor Larry Hogan’s Executive Cabinet, Secretary Bassette is responsible for millions of dollars in annual contract administration. Under her leadership, DGS supports state and local government agencies by providing a full spectrum of design and construction services, facilities operations, security, procurement, real estate and surplus property services.
A Bowie State alumna herself, Secretary Bassette earned a B.A. in Communications Media from the historically black university. One of Bowie State’s oldest alumni, Essie Banks, of Baltimore, will be honored during the commencement ceremony in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the institution’s founding as a school for the state’s newly emancipated African-Americans.
Bowie State University is a public university located north of Bowie in Prince George’s County. The university is part of the University System of Maryland and is the state’s oldest historically black university and one of the ten oldest in the country.
