July Honorees

The Office of State Procurement nominates Alex Ferguson and Matthew Smith. Both Alex and Matthew work with our Commodities and Facilities Maintenance division, yet due to a difficult staffing situation in our IT and Services division, Alex and Matthew have stepped up to help their colleagues while still maintaining their normal workload. Their willingness to go above and beyond is being noticed across the organization and helps ensure external customers are receiving quality customer service and timely responses to their requests. To that end, I received the following unsolicited email: I just wanted to let you know that Alex is working extremely hard to assist the IT and Services Team with our work backlog. Alex messaged Chris late last night. He was working on PORFP reviews and had
questions about sole source award reviews. I would like to commend Alex, and Gwendolyn as his supervisor for the great work ethic and attitude are 10/10. I would like to thank OSP leadership, Gwendolyn, Tonia, Alex and Matt for allowing us to assign work to Alex and Matt in order to support the IT and Services team while we work to fill critical open positions.

Jose Alvarez, Maintenance Mechanic Sr. at the Silver Spring District Court, has been with DGS since December 2016.  Prior to joining the DGS team, Jose was employed as a Maintenance Mechanic Sr. for the Department Of Public Safety and Corrections. He is an important part of the Region 4 team, and shows exemplary commitment and teamwork. Jose is committed to the Silver Spring facility, but often volunteers to provide coverage at Glen Burnie if needed.  He takes great pride in his work, especially painting, pressure washing, and performing various minor repairs that make a big difference. Recently, Jose assisted Rockville District Court by replacing a water heater in the Judge’s Chambers which was in an area very difficult to access.  While on site, he also repaired an electrical shortage in a courtroom.  Jose’s electrical expertise and teamwork resulted in a cost savings to the State.
