40 Homes to be furnished in time for Veterans Day 2018

SILVER SPRING, Md., Nov. 2, 2018 /PRNewswire/ — A Wider Circle, a national leader in the movement to eradicate poverty in the United States, announced that on Saturday, November 3, A Wider Circle will be partnering with Walter Reed Navy Medical Center in Bethesda, MD to help furnish new homes for 40 previously homeless veterans in our Nation’s Capital in time for Veterans Day 2018.

“We especially want to thank Governor Hogan, Maryland Department of General Services Secretary Churchill and their entire team for stepping up to help make this happen before Veterans Day,” said Mark Bergel, Founder, President & CEO of A Wider Circle. “Maryland’s Department of General Services swiftly connected us with the U.S. General Service Administration’s Federal Surplus Property Program and has been instrumental in coordinating the Walter Reed furniture pick up. This type of regional collaboration between Maryland and Washington, D.C. is essential to support our neighbors and to truly eradicate generational poverty.”

“We are proud to serve more than 500 veterans and their families each year,” said Jordan Silverman, Senior Development Officer of A Wider Circle. “We have been working closely with our wonderful partners at the District of Columbia Housing Authority and the Maryland Department of General Services to provide fully furnished homes for these individuals who have given so much to protect our country.”

“Our department is committed to building an active and thriving network that connects Maryland citizens and nonprofits to vital government services and programs,” said General Services Secretary Ellington E. Churchill, Jr. “We owe a debt to the brave men and women who have served our country, and our agency is proud to support our state’s veterans with today’s donation.”

After the homes are furnished, A Wider Circle will participate in the Stand at Ease Conference 2018 on the morning of Friday, November 9, which is open to all veterans in the Greater Washington Region.
