October Honorees

Officer Asia Alexander has been with the Annapolis Detachment for almost two years. She is self-motivated, a great team player and is always one of the first to help out with special events. She has been praised by her supervisors for always asking questions that will increase her knowledge and job proficiency and continually seeks training opportunities to enhance her career. Indeed, she consistently scores high in any training she takes.

In 2016, Officer Alexander scored 100% on the Field Officer Training course through the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission. She is currently MCP’s only female Field Training Officer, a role in which she takes great pride.

With her work and three children at home, she still finds time to give back to the community. The latest example was Sunday, October 9th at the Light House Support Center in Annapolis, where Officer Alexander and two of her children could be found at 6:30 AM preparing and serving breakfast to the less fortunate.

Police Officer Asia Alexander is known not only for qualities that make a great officer – determination, commitment and a drive for excellence. Her cheerful optimism, empathy and determination to be the best she can be make her an amazing role model to her children and to all who know her.

 

With a staff that includes only the two of them, Cathy Ensor (right) and Kim Langkam manage a caseload of 1,100 grants valued at over $770 million. And they never complain! No matter the requests made of them, you’ll never hear them say “that’s not in my job description.”

Cathy and Kim work diligently to determine that grantees are qualified and that they provide documentation that they meet the match requirement, if applicable. Equally important, they make sure that the grant agreement is signed properly.  In many cases, grantees need guidance and direction to resolve any issues related to their grant, like insufficient documentation of matching funds or changes to the boiler plate grant agreement. Cathy and Kim provide this guidance.

This office of two is dedicated to getting the grantees the full amount of their grants. At the same time, they are required to ensure that funds are being used for their intended purpose, and not misused or abused. Throughout the life of the grant, they give a laser focus to helping them spend their funds correctly.

 

Dave Kelleher, Asst. Chief, Valuation and Appraisal Unit, Office of Real Estate has 38 years on the job. At the recent 40th Anniversary commemoration of the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation (MALPF) program, Dave was recognized as the longest-working state employee on the MALPF program, having performed appraisal reviews and staff appraisals for over 34 years.

Dave, along with the Valuation and Appraisal team, recently completed near historic volumes of appraisal reviews for the MALPF program in FY 17; they reviewed over 420 appraisals for some 210 farms.  Dave is being recognized for his dedication to state service, and specifically to the MALPF program.

 

 

Larry Jones has been a member of the Inner Harbor team since March of 2011 and is currently assigned as a Maintenance Mechanic at Saratoga State Center. Larry is the type of employee you want on your team, because he stands ready for any challenge at any time.  He consistently reports to work prepared to perform great service.

Flexibility is one of his most treasured assets. A typical day consist of morning inspection rounds at 310 & 311 W. Saratoga Street, a 10-story building and a 6-story parking garage and warehouse. He’s also responding to such diverse issues as water and steam leaks or pest and insect problems. He might be caught replacing damaged ceiling tiles or fixing an overflowing toilet. All of this with a smile.

Recently, there was a flood at the Nancy S. Grasmick State Education Building, in the kitchenette adjacent to the Office of the State Superintendent of Education. Without hesitation, Larry volunteered and was on site Friday night, all day Saturday and all day Sunday – over 41 hours. He spent that time with the contractor to ensure that repairs were properly completed and that the contractor stayed on task and on schedule so the space would be ready the very next day.
