Baltimore AFV Test Run Opportunity

By Mike Jones, MEA Energy Program Manger for Transportation

In partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy, Penske will deploy a targeted multi-alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) demonstration that will allow new drivers and fleets to “try out” cost-effective and clean-burning AFVs via Penske’s rental services for 1-30 days at no cost difference than a traditional rental. The vehicles incorporated may include either heavy-duty compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles or medium-duty propane vehicles.

This program aims to accelerate market penetration of AFVs in targeted regions and with customers who have traditionally not used AFVs in their fleets—understanding and enabling us to overcome some of the biggest barriers to widespread fleet adoption of alternative fuel vehicles in the U.S. This program will allow commercial fleets to try before buying or leasing, thus minimizing risk and cost to the operators.

The program began November 1st and runs through July 14th, 2017.If you operate a fleet in the Baltimore area and are interested in learning more about in this opportunity, please email michael.jones1@maryland.gov for additional information, including: fact sheets, presentations, equipment specification sheets, and an equipment operating and fueling brochure. You can also contact the local Penske office directly at (410) 727-7020; they are located at 1711 Wicomico St, Baltimore, MD 21230.
