Give mom a Mother’s Day she will remember with a scenic, guided hike through the beautiful Woodmont Natural Resources Management Area (NRMA). A park ranger will lead the tour, explaining what has made Woodmont such a wild paradise for the past 150 years, and highlighting the newly-constructed Wildlife History Trail. The hike is taken at leisurely pace and will cover approximately 3.5 miles round-trip. Read more

Maryland Breaks Ground on Tubman State Park;Governor Names Salazar Admiral
Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley, U.S. Department of Interior Secretary Ken Salazar and nearly 400 gathered in Dorchester County on Saturday March, 9 to break ground on the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad State Park. The new park, just south of Cambridge, will be the trail head for the Harriet Tubman Byway and will include a 15,000-square foot Visitor Center, exhibit hall and theater, memorial garden, trails and a picnic pavilion. The Harrriet Tubman Centennial Commemoration — marking the 100th anniversary of the freedom fighter’s death — also featured the official ribbon cutting for the Byway. Read more

DNR Seeks Partners to Restore Historic Grove Farm
Citizens interested in becoming curators to the historic Grove Farm in Cecil County are invited to join the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for one of its open houses, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on September 15 or October 13. The Grove Farm is available for restoration under the Department’s Resident-Curatorship Program, which matches up historic properties with people interested in restoring, maintaining and periodically sharing them with the public in return for the right to lifetime tenancy.

MPS Hosts Western Maryland Rail Trail Guided Bike Ride September 15
The Maryland Park Service (MPS) is hosting a leisurely, guided bike ride along the historic Western Maryland Rail Trail starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 15. Bikers will follow a naturalist to discover and learn about the area’s historic and natural wonders.
