The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comment on the proposed 2017 fiscal year work plans for Chesapeake, Garrett, Green Ridge, Pocomoke, Potomac and Savage River state forests

“Maryland’s citizens, economy and visitors all reap the benefits of strong, healthy forests,” Acting Maryland Forest Service Director Don VanHassent said. “In addition to our own experience and knowledge, we also rely on the public’s input and innovation to help us establish the most comprehensive and effective management plans for these forest lands.”

Annual work plans help identify priorities within the scope of the forest’s long-range management plan. They address establishment, growth, composition, health and quality management operations, along with maintenance and construction projects, and other actions.

The comment period is the final step in the three-step process. The first was an internal review by a team of natural resource professionals and the second step was a review by an appointed advisory committee. Following the conclusion of the comment period on March 25, each forest manager will review, revise and finalize their plan.

The proposed plans and instructions for comment are available at http://dnr2.maryland.gov/forests/Pages/workplans.aspx.
