A Gaithersburg man and a Frederick woman were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute on Wednesday by a Maryland Natural Resources Police officer conducting a highway safety patrol.
Mario Roberto Garcia Elmore, 23, and Patricia Dorothy Harmon, 21, were stopped on westbound I-70 at about 10:30 p.m. after the officer noticed their vehicle weaving between lanes and exhibiting erratic speed.
A Maryland State Police K-9 alerted its handler to the presence of drugs in the vehicle. A search turned up 40 grams of cocaine and $1,255 in cash in a purse on the vehicle floor. Officers also found a small amount of marijuana.
Elmore and Harmon were charged with cocaine possession with intent to distribute and marijuana possession. Elmore also was charged with drivingĀ on a suspended license.
The two defendants are scheduled to appear in Frederick District Court on April 10.
