Park Advisory Commission Awards Outstanding Supporters

Governor Larry Hogan, Maryland Public Television and Mid Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts Receive Honors

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announces individuals and organizations recently recognized by the Park Advisory Commission and Maryland Park Service as outstanding supporters of our state parks. The commission presents the awards annually. 

Governor Larry Hogan received the Leadership Award of Excellence at Maryland Tourism Day as a champion of our state parks, promoting them as places of natural beauty and destinations to visit and enjoy. He was presented his award at the State House by Superintendent Nita Settina and Park Advisory Commission Chair Deb Carter.

Maryland Public Television received the Award of Excellence for the positive and lasting effects they have provided throughout 30 years of programming. “Outdoors Maryland” Producer Mike English accepted the award from Superintendent Nita Settina, Deputy Superintendent Chris Bushman and Central Regional Manager Steve McCoy as well as Park Advisory Commission members Deb Carter, Mel Poole and Sandy Turner.

The Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts, a nonprofit organization representing thousands of mountain bikers in the region, received the Partner of the Year Award for contributing thousands of volunteer hours in constructing and maintaining hundreds of miles of trails in several state parks, including Patapsco Valley State Park.

The Park Advisory Commission was formed in 1972. It advises the Superintendent of the Maryland Park Service concerning the operation, maintenance and mission of the state’s parks. Appointed by the governor with the advice of the secretary, the commission consists of 12 members.
