Trapping Opportunities Available on Lower Eastern Shore

Sealed Bids Accepted Until Oct. 18

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is currently accepting bids for the 2017-2018 trapping seasons at multiple public lands located on the Lower Eastern Shore.

Properties include Janes Island State Park and Cedar Island, Deal Island, E. A. Vaughn, Isle of Wight, Johnson, Maryland Marine Properties, Pocomoke River, Pocomoke Sound, South Marsh Island, and Wellington wildlife management areas.

Bid packages must be picked up in person at Wellington Wildlife Management Area in Princess Anne or the Salisbury Regional Service Center. Completed and sealed bids must be returned to the Salisbury Regional Service Center by noon Oct. 18. The bids will be opened at 1 p.m. that same day. The individual with the highest bid will be awarded annual trapping privileges.

Furbearers that can be trapped in Maryland include: beaver, coyote, fisher, gray fox, long-tailed weasel, mink, muskrat, nutria, opossum, raccoon, red fox, river otter and skunk. All trappers must possess both a Furbearer Permit and Certificate of Trapper Education.
