Fort Frederick State Park Brings French and Indian War To Life

Program Allows ‘Visitors to Travel Back in Time’

Visitors to Fort Frederick State Park can get firsthand experience of life at the fort during the French and Indian War as members of the recreated Captain Joshua Beall’s Company of the Maryland Forces garrison the fort.

Living historians will demonstrate life of the Maryland Provincials at Fort Frederick from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26.

“This program allows our visitors to travel back in time and participate in the daily activities performed by the soldiers and women stationed at the fort during the French and Indian War,” said Fort Frederick State Park Ranger Bob Study.

The French and Indian War was fought from 1756-63, pitting the French and their Native American allies against the British and their allies. The war changed the landscape and fabric of North America.

Visitors to this event will pay a service charge of $3 per vehicle for state residents and $5 for nonresidents. Visitors should also be advised that disabled access is available, although most of the activities are on grassy areas. Snacks, drinks, gifts and souvenirs will be available for sale at Captain Wort’s Sutler Shop.

Fort Frederick is located off Interstate 70 at State Route 56 in Big Pool, Maryland. For more information about the Garrison Weekend or other fort or park activities, visitors should call 301-842-2155.
