Honorary Ranger William “Howard” Skinner Recognized
Dedication Ceremony Held at Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recognized the lifelong contributions of Honorary Ranger William “Howard” Skinner Oct. 21 with a dedication ceremony at Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area.A life-long resident of the property, now managed by the Maryland Park Service, Howard Skinner was the first volunteer in the state to receive the ‘Honorary Ranger’ title.
The tract of land east of Appleton Road and west of Little Egypt Road, as well as the family home, have been formally designated as the ‘Honorary Ranger William “Howard” Skinner Area’, as approved by the Board of Public Works June 8.
Family, friends and community members were in Cecil County to pay homage to Skinner’s legacy and share stories of his devotion to Fair Hill.
