Available species include mixed oak (pin and white), with a limited number of redbud, river birch, eastern red cedar and bald cypress.

About 50 trees are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tree species cannot be reserved but can selected at time of pickup.

Each one-gallon, containerized native tree seedling is approximately 1-2 feet tall. To help protect the health of the seedlings, the department will also provide a free tree tube, stake and bird net while supplies last.

To reserve a free tree, interested landowners should contact Brittany Haas at 410-819-4120. Trees must be reserved by Sept. 13, and picked up at the Maryland Forest Service table between noon and 2 p.m. Sept. 16.
