Fort Frederick State Park to Host Youth Fishing Rodeo
April 7 Event Open to Anglers Aged 15 and Under
Young anglers can catch stocked trout and other fish from 8 a.m. to noon April 7, during the Fort Frederick State Park annual youth fishing rodeo at Beaver Pond.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources works with local organizations to host youth fishing rodeos, providing fun and engaging educational opportunities for nearly 5,000 children statewide.
“Some of the fondest memories a child will have are created in the great outdoors with family and friends,” Maryland Park Service Ranger Jeremiah Corbin said. “Like any great camping trip or hike in the woods, the youth fishing rodeo is the kind of memory that lasts a lifetime.”
The event is open to children ages 15 and younger, accompanied by an adult. Registration is not required. Participants must bring their own bait and gear. Participants to meet at the gravel parking lot after the railroad tracks near the Big Pool boat ramp.
Prizes donated by the Clear Spring Lions Club will be awarded to youth anglers who catch the largest fish, smallest fish, the most fish and more.
There is a park entrance fee of $3 per car for residents and $5 for nonresidents. More information is available by calling 301-842-2155.
