Trapping Opportunities on Eastern Shore Wildlife Management Areas

Photo of Nanticoke River Wildlife Management AreaThe Maryland Department of Natural Resources is currently accepting bids for the 2017-2018 trapping seasons at several Eastern Shore Wildlife Management Areas – Ellis Bay, Fishing Bay, IdylwildLeCompte, Linkwood, Nanticoke River, Taylor’s Island and Wetipquin.

Bid packages must be picked up in person at the LeCompte Wildlife Management Area in Vienna. Sealed bids must be returned there by noon Oct. 17. The bids will be opened at 1 p.m. that same day.

More information is available from the Wildlife and Heritage Service at 410-376-3236, ext. 302 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Furbearers that can be trapped in Maryland include: beaver, coyote, fisher, gray fox, long-tailed weasel, mink, muskrat, nutria, opossum, raccoon, red fox, river otter and skunk. All trappers must possess both a Furbearer Permit and Certificate of Trapper Education.
