Maryland State Fair: Raptors and Reptiles and Resources, Oh My!

Midway at Maryland State FairThe Maryland Department of Natural Resources is pleased to announce its displays, exhibits and programs for the 2017 Maryland State Fair at the Timonium Fairgrounds (Aug. 25- Sept. 4), including the ever-popular Scales & Tales Program.

Stop by the Mosner Miller building to check out birds and reptiles in action or browse through some of the other educational and informational exhibits, ranging from crawfish and snakes from the Resource Assessment Service to learning more about the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program from the Wildlife and Heritage Service. The department’s Fishing and Boating Services will have information for anglers, including a display on invasive species such as the snakehead. The Maryland Forest Service and Natural Resources Police will also staff displays at the fair.

An expansive recycling exhibit will also be in place courtesy of the Maryland Department of the Environment.

“We look forward to the Maryland State Fair each and every year,” Maryland Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. “It provides us a unique opportunity to showcase our talented staff and Maryland’s wonderfully-diverse outdoors. The fair is a great way to connect, educate and engage with families and children in a fun and relaxing environment.”

In addition to fixed displays and exhibits, the Maryland Park Service will provide live Scales & Tales programming on the Carolina Carport Stage Aug. 26 at 1 p.m., Aug. 27 at 1 and 3 p.m., Sept. 3 at 1 and 3 p.m., and Sept. 4 at 1 and 3 p.m.

Exhibit hours for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources are 2-8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day Monday. Live animal displays will run from 2-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 1-7 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and Labor Day Monday.
