The City of Annapolis Hosts Maritime Summit
Working Waterfront Awareness Project
Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides announced the Maritime Summit, which brought together more than 100 Annapolis area maritime and marine businesses, was a huge success.
“We are proud of our rich maritime history and understand the importance of supporting our local professionals,” Mayor Pantelides said. “Today was an excellent opportunity to work alongside of businesses in the city, with a common goal of supporting our marine and maritime industries.”
The summit, along with a new marketing brand and toolkit, offered an opportunity to showcase local business as part of Annapolis’ marine and maritime industries and was funded by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Working Waterfronts Enhancement Grant.
“Maryland’s coastal communities are an integral part of our state’s economy and identity,” said Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton. “Our maritime culture, centered on the Chesapeake Bay and its many tributaries, continues to thrive to this very day. We are pleased to be able to provide this grant in support of our capital city, Annapolis and its working city dock and surrounding marine-based businesses and enterprises.”
Mayor Pantelides kicked off the Maritime Summit, followed by remarks by Secretary Belton and Annapolis’ Economic Development Manager Hollis Minor. Frank DiVenti from Visit Annapolis and Anne Arundel County made a presentation and the summit ended with a Q&A session followed by networking.
“This is an example of how the city listened to the requests of our maritime business owners and because of DNR’s funding, we were able to implement recommendations from previous maritime studies,” Planning and Zoning Comprehensive Planning Chief Dr. Sally Nash said.
