Fall Trout Stocking Begins in Maryland

25,000 Trout to be Released in October

Trout StockingThe Maryland Department of Natural Resources began stocking brown, golden and rainbow trout in select creeks, lakes and rivers this week as part of its annual fall trout stocking activities. Approximately 25,000 trout will be stocked by the end of October.

Fall stocking locations include popular fishing areas such as Bear Creek, Big Elk Creek, Blairs Valley Lake, Deer Creek, Great Seneca Creek, Greenbelt Lake, Gunpowder Falls, Lake Artemesia, Morgan Run, North Branch Potomac, Patapsco River, Town Creek, Tuckahoe Creek and Wheatley Lake. Stocking dates, times, and locations will be chosen based on weather conditions, water flow and temperatures.

“Our fall trout stocking program is a very popular complement to our larger spring stocking program,” said Fishing and Boating Services Director Dave Blazer. “Fall stocking gives anglers one last chance at some excellent trout fishing prior to the upcoming winter months”.Trout fishing

Most of these stocked trout weigh between one-half and one pound, but numerous trophy fish, weighing over three pounds, will also be stocked. Some stocked streams have seasonal restrictions so anglers should consult the 2016 Maryland Fishing Guide for all related fishing regulations and restrictions.
