Hunting Opportunity in Prince George’s County

Managed Deer Hunt Begins Oct. 20

DeerThe Maryland Department of Natural Resources will provide public deer hunting opportunities, as part of a managed deer hunting program, in the Belt Woods Natural Environment Area during the 2016-2017 hunting seasons.

Belt Woods is a 625-acre natural area in Prince George’s County that has been owned and managed by the department since 2003. The forested area, which contains one of the last stands of old-growth hardwoods on the Atlantic Coastal Plain, has recently been transferred to the Maryland Park Service.

After a comprehensive analysis and review of existing activities and practices on the property, park managers, in consultation with wildlife biologists and experts, decided to continue the limited and managed deer hunt program as a vital tool in ongoing efforts to manage the local population of white-tailed deer.

The hunt will begin Oct. 20 with the early deer muzzleloader season and continue through the 2016-17 deer hunting seasons. Access, limited to eight hunters daily, will require a free seasonal permit and daily reservations made through the Myrtle Grove Wildlife Management Area. Bag limits, license requirements and schedules apply.
