Department of Natural Resources Outlines Fee Reductions

Beneficiaries Include Veterans and Youth

Following Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s announcement that the state is eliminating or reducing $60 million in state-issued fees, the Department of Natural Resources outlined its proposals which will save Marylanders approximately $2.71 million over the next five years.

As part of the program, military veterans will receive free admission to Maryland State Parks on Veterans Day and half-priced admission year-round with proof of service. In addition, fourth grade students and their families will receive free admission to all state parks through the National Park Service’s Every Kid in a Park pass. Both promotions are effective immediately.

“These strategically chosen reductions are another step forward in alleviating the complicated and taxing fiscal demands that have been placed on Marylanders,” Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. “We are grateful for Governor Hogan’s commitment to reducing fees and making access to our public lands more affordable.”

Additional fees that were eliminated or reduced:

• The replacement Commercial Fishing License fee has been eliminated.
• The Fisheries Scientific Collecting Permit was reduced from $25 to $10.
• The Off Road Vehicle Permit was reduced from $15 to $10.
• The Captive Reptile and Amphibian Permit was reduced from $25 to $10.
• The Falconry Permit was reduced from $25 to $10.
• The Resident Peregrine Falcon Take Permit was reduced from $25 to $10.
