NRP Extends Upper Potomac River Warning
The Maryland Natural Resources Police has extended its warning to boaters and other recreational users to avoid the Potomac River and its tributaries from Cumberland to Great Falls.
The advisory will be in effect until midnight Thursday and will be extended again, if necessary. It does not apply to professionally guided river trips.
High, rushing water carries debris that can easily destroy a boat or knock a swimmer or wading angler unconscious, NRP cautions. Although many places on the river have crested, conditions remain hazardous.
