DNR Welcomes Public Input on Plans for Newtowne Neck State Park
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is seeking public input on three draft plans detailing the future design and use of Newtowne Neck State Park, located in St. Mary’s County. Each proposal presents a different scenario that will conserve and showcase the site’s natural, cultural and recreational resources. Input is being accepted via online survey through June 30, and will be used to finalize a master plan for the park later this summer.
All three plans support a lightly developed park setting that would protect the landscape and historic significance, and allow for passive recreational access. They differ primarily in how amenities would be situated and the degree of developed improvements.
The plans were created by DNR with extensive input from the Master Plan Advisory Committee, which includes representatives from an array of community, government, recreational and heritage stakeholder groups. Each proposal includes a map and a summary of elements — products of a DNR open house, design charrette and community meetings.
The Department values the public’s time and interest in providing feedback on one of Maryland’s newest State Park additions.
