NRP Blotter: NRP Charges Annapolis Men in Impaired Boating Incident
Two Annapolis men were arrested Monday afternoon in a boat just off Sandy Point State Park and charged with alcohol and drug violations by Maryland Natural Resources Police officers.
John Robert Maginnis, 42, was cited for negligent operation of a vessel, operating while intoxicated and possession of marijuana. Justin Cort Shade, 33, was charged with possession of marijuana.
Officers approached the vessel at about 1:30 p.m. to check for fishing activity and smelled a strong odor of burned marijuana and alcohol. Maginnis was charged after taking a field sobriety test.
Both men are scheduled to appear in Anne Arundel District Court on June 19. If found guilty of all charges, Maginnis could be fined as much as $2,500 and be sentenced to up to a year in jail. Shade could be fined as much as $1,000.
