Photo of ducks taking off from the waterResident hunters will be able to apply for a 2018-2019 waterfowl blind site license starting Aug. 7. On opening day, applicants will be entered into a lottery for a chance to select their sites.

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources assigns each blind site license to a designated location in state waters where hunters can anchor their boats to hunt waterfowl.

From 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Aug. 7, applications will start to be accepted at various locations (listed below). Please note that anyone arriving after 8 a.m. will not be eligible for the lottery. The lottery will start at approximately 8:30 a.m. Once selected, applicants will have eight minutes to choose their blind sites, with a maximum of two sites per day. Selections will end at 4:30 p.m. and resume the following day. On Aug. 8, licensing will be held at the listed locations from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Aug. 9 and thereafter during normal business hours.

Applicants must present their driver’s license or other photo identification to verify identity and residency (individuals under the age of 16 are exempt) AND their 2017-2018 or 2018-2019 Maryland resident hunting license in order to participate. Any landowners or designee seeking to license their own property are exempt from this requirement. Nonresident hunters are ineligible.

Landowners who would like to license their property should bring a copy of the property information, which is available online, and a tax map or other legible map showing the exact location of the shoreline to be licensed. Preview maps of shoreline licensed by waterfront landowners will be available after July 15 at the locations listed below and online.
