Draft State Wildlife Action Plan Open for Public Comment

Responses due May 8

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is seeking public comment on its draft State Wildlife Action Plan, a plan that each state is required to review and revise every 10 years as requested by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

“In working side by side with federal, state and local organizations, the department has outlined a plan for Maryland’s wildlife and associated habitats that represents a shared vision and strategy,” Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said.

The plan is a non-regulatory blueprint to guide wildlife managers in conserving habitat and keeping declining wildlife species from becoming threatened or endangered. The department released the first half of the plan for public comment in December, and is now accepting input on the entire plan.

Comments can be submitted online, by email to mdswap.dnr@maryland.gov, or by mail to: Maryland State Wildlife Action Plan Coordinator, 580 Taylor Ave., E-1, Annapolis, MD 21401.
