The Maryland Department of Natural Resources is accepting tree seedling orders through the John S. Ayton State Forest Tree Nursery for larger plantings on private lands through April 29. There are more than 50 tree species available to meet a variety of aesthetic and environmental needs.

Seedlings are available for conservation purposes defined as: watershed protection, wildlife habitat, Christmas tree farms, forest products, soil protection, buffer planting and windbreak protection. A minimum order of 25 seedlings per species is required. Supplies are limited.

Landowners who purchase seedlings from the John S. Ayton Nursery agree to:

  • Provide a planting report upon department request
  • Protect plantings as much as possible from fires, grazing animals and trespassers
  • Keep live, rooted trees in place (trees with roots attached may not be uprooted for sale as live or ornamental trees)

To learn more or place an order, visit the John S. Ayton State Forest Tree Nursery online at nursery.dnr.maryland.gov.
