BALTIMORE \u2014 Today, at the direction of Gov. Larry Hogan, the Maryland National Guard has staged approximately 100 Soldiers on state active duty and 50 vehicles at armories in southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore<\/span> as a precaution in case they are needed to support civil agencies responding to the snowstorm expected over the\"\"<\/a> weekend. The MDNG is ready to assist local and state emergency agencies in responding to potential impacts from heavy snowfall with humvees and trucks for evacuation and transportation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Soldiers from the 115th Military Police Battalion, Maryland Army National Guard, are positioned at armories in Annapolis, Easton, La Plata and Salisbury for <\/span>winter storm response operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOur Maryland National Guard Soldiers are trained and ready to rapidly respond, and having our Guard members and vehicles prepositioned is key to a quick response\u201d said U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Timothy E. Gowen, the adjutant general of Maryland. \u201cI couldn\u2019t be prouder of the members who stepped forward to support this mission. Even with \"\"<\/a>ongoing COVID missions statewide, their commitment to serving and protecting Marylanders is unwavering.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The Maryland Department of Emergency Management urges all Marylanders to monitor weather conditions and take appropriate precautions for potentially unsafe conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n

During domestic operations, the MDNG receives missions through MDEM and responds as part of a multi-agency team to provide support capabilities to communities in need. Because it is tasked through MDEM, the MDNG is not able to respond to direct support requests from the public. Anyone in need of emergency assistance should call 911 rather than the National Guard.<\/span><\/p>\n
