Rick Barnes, Maryland Defense Force<\/em><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap wp-block-paragraph\">The weekends have been busy for several members of the Maryland Defense Force, the state guard that supports the Maryland National Guard. On almost every Saturday and Sunday from February 20<sup>th<\/sup> through May 1, 2021, members of the were on duty to assist in providing COVID-19 vaccinations for veterans at the Veterans Administration Hospital in downtown Baltimore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hospital\u2019s cafeteria served as a temporary vaccination and observation area operating during the weekend clinics. Members of the MDDF directed veterans through the hospital to specific stations to complete the paperwork and receive their vaccinations. Some reminisced on their own days of service to our nation when they were in uniform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The VA Maryland Health Care System is administering the COVID-19 vaccine to all Veteran patients who are enrolled in VA health services, regardless of their age. To schedule an appointment to receive the vaccination, call their COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment Line at 410-605-7740, Monday &#8211; Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Maryland Defense Force is the State\u2019s volunteer military unit providing professional and technical assistance to the Maryland Military Department. Established in 1917, the MDDF consists of over 170 personnel who perform legal, engineering, finance, medical, chaplain, field support and ceremonial services for the State of Maryland.
