Christopher Schepers, 175th Wing Public Affairs Office<\/em>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1585859986249{margin-top: 0px !important;margin-right: 0px !important;margin-bottom: 0px !important;margin-left: 0px !important;border-top-width: 0px !important;border-right-width: 0px !important;border-bottom-width: 0px !important;border-left-width: 0px !important;padding-top: 0px !important;padding-right: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;padding-left: 0px !important;}&#8221;]<strong>Maryland National Guard distributes more than one million medical items during COVID-19 response<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>BALTIMORE \u2013 Airmen from the Maryland National Guard working at a Strategic National Stockpile in Maryland have processed and distributed more than one million items during the state\u2019s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Up to 18 Airmen from the 175th Wing, based out of Warfield Air National Guard Base at Martin State Airport in Middle River, Md., are sorting medical equipment and supplies at the undisclosed site before preparing them for shipment and loading them on trucks for distribution across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMaryland\u2019s Air Guard is uniquely qualified for these specialized missions that really compliments our Army Guard teammates really well,\u201d said Air Force Brig. Gen. Edward Jones, assistant adjutant general for air, Maryland National Guard. \u201cWe may have smaller numbers in behind-the-scenes roles but they are making a huge impact to the citizens of Maryland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland Department of Health, along with Gov. Larry Hogan&#8217;s COVID-19 Emergency Response Team, developed a prioritized plan to distribute the limited resources to the state&#8217;s health care workers and hospitals. The medical supplies, including masks, gloves, gowns, face shields and other personal protective equipment, are allocated considering the level of need and predictive analysis, as well as access in the commercial pipeline.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/04\/6146905.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3922 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/04\/6146905-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/04\/6146905-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/04\/6146905-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/04\/6146905-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/04\/6146905-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2020\/04\/6146905.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The team built approximately 150 pallets and every jurisdiction in the state received deliveries from the warehouse in the two weeks since the mission began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am impressed with the team\u2019s ability to remain flexible and adaptive in a quickly changing environment while tackling a brand new inventory system,\u201d said Senior Master Sgt. Jennifer Andrasy, material management flight chief, 175th Logistics Readiness Squadron, Maryland Air National Guard. \u201cWe are proud that our efforts have on the fight to combat this crisis we are currently facing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Strategic National Stockpile is the federal government\u2019s supply of life-saving pharmaceuticals and medical supplies for use in severe public health emergencies that cause local supplies to run out. The stockpile is maintained by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is stored at key undisclosed locations throughout the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland National Guard is working alongside various agencies and civil authorities, such as the Maryland Department of Health, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese Airmen have been doing a tremendous job of getting critical supplies to first responders on the front lines of this pandemic,\u201d said Army Brig. Gen. Adam Flasch, director of the joint staff, Maryland National Guard. \u201cThis is an interagency operation so we could not do it without the direct support of our partners here at the state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Maryland Department of Health regularly works with the Airmen of the 175th Wing to train and be prepared of unplanned medical emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrevious exercises and open lines of communication helped our team hit the ground running,\u201d said Col.
