This year, the Washington County area TFT campaign received the assistance from their local Md. National Guard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do this aside from our primary mission,\u201d said Lt. Col. Michael Taluskie, 581st battalion commander and, in his civilian capacity, a trooper for the Maryland State Police. \u201cWe want to serve our community in every way possible and events like this not only allow us to get some good fitness in, but also provides us the opportunity to meet more of our neighbors and civil servants within the area.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the Md. Guard soldiers were supporters from the MSP, State Highway Administration, TFT volunteers and more.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like for the holidays, we are definitely doing it for our community, we want them to know that we are a<a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965999-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3517 \" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965999-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"392\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965999-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965999-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965999-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965999-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965999-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 392px) 100vw, 392px\" \/><\/a> part of them and we are always there for them to support and help them so that\u2019s what this is all about,\u201d said Spec. Desmond Sab, a combat engineer with the 253rd Engineer Company.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time Sab participated in the community event. As a security officer in his civilian capacity, he\u2019s no stranger to helping others.<\/p>\n<p>The soldiers received several horn blows from passing cars and cheers of support as they made their way to the city MSP barracks to drop-off their donations.<\/p>\n<p>Greeted with holiday music performed by the 229th Army Band, the 581st immediately began off-loading their gifts.<\/p>\n<p>Diane Dutrow, a TFT coordinator, reflected on the amazing support these soldiers brought to the community this day as three enormous bins were packed full of toys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe toys donated will stay in Washington County,\u201d Dutrow said. \u201cWe could not be more grateful for the vans filled with toys by the soldiers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the local TFT website, almost 18,000 toys have been distributed, which has reached over 1,500 children in the area.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, the battalion commander expressed how amazing it is for the whole community to come together in these times of need.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe same soldiers that will be coming out in the snowstorms, or high water helping the community, are the same soldiers who are out here marching,\u201d Taluskie said. \u201cI am glad we were able to give such a large contribution to TFT.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965823-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3516\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965823-300x237.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"554\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965823-300x237.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965823-1024x810.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965823-768x607.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965823-1536x1215.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/18\/2019\/12\/5965823-2048x1619.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 554px) 100vw, 554px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Author: U.S. Army National Guard Maj.
