Cade, former commanding officer of the Maryland National Guard&#8217;s 229th Supply and Transportation Battalion. The 229th carried the lineage and honors of &#8220;The Monumental City Guards&#8221;, re-designated the First Separate Company in 1882, an all-black Maryland National Guard unit.
