ADELPHI, Md. \u2013 Maryland Army National Guard Col. Bradley Martsching, commander of the 58th Troop Command, was promoted to the rank of brigadier general during a ceremony at the Adelphi Research Laboratory on March 7, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Brig. Gen. Martsching led the 58th Troop Command, overseeing a diverse array of units and missions critical to the Maryland Army National Guard. With a career spanning over three decades, he now transitions to a new role at the National Guard Bureau as the Deputy Director of the Multinational Security Support Interagency Working Group \u2013 Haiti.<\/p>\n


\u201cBrad is a leader who understands that success in uniform requires constant learning, adaptation, and vision,\u201d said Maryland Army National Guard Maj. Gen. Janeen L. Birckhead, the adjutant general for Maryland, who hosted the ceremony. \u201cThis promotion is not just a well-earned recognition of rank, but also a reflection of a career dedicated to service, leadership, excellence, and a testament to the trust placed in him by the Army, the Maryland National Guard, and our nation.\u201d<\/p>\n


The ceremony was attended by several distinguished guests, including Lt. Gen. (ret) Jon Jensen, the former director of the Army National Guard, Maj. Gen. Bobby Christine, the special assistant to the director, Army National Guard for the Department of the Army – Office of the Judge Advocate General, Maryland Air National Guard Brig. Gen. Drew Doughtery, the assistant adjutant general for Air, and many more. Their presence underscored the significance of the occasion and the respect Martsching has earned throughout his career.<\/p>\n


Martsching, an infantry officer, has commanded at the company and squadron levels, with 14 years of experience in airborne, light, reconnaissance, and long-range surveillance units. He has held key positions at the National Guard Bureau, including Chief of the Readiness Reporting Branch, Chief of the Current Operations Branch, and Strategic Planner in the NGB-J5 Strategy Branch. His operational assignments include deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and contingency operations in Libya.<\/p>\n


During the ceremony, Martsching\u2019s family joined him on stage as his new rank was pinned to his uniform. In his remarks, he reflected on the support and mentorship he received throughout his career.<\/p>\n


\u201cI have been incredibly fortunate to have mentors, leaders, and family members who have guided and supported me throughout my journey,\u201d said Martsching. \u201cTheir wisdom, patience, and example have shaped me into who I am today.\u201d<\/p>\n


Martsching holds a Bachelor of Arts from Coe College, a Master of Arts from The American University, and a Master of Science from the Joint Forces Staff College. His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Joint Advanced Warfighting School, and the U.S. Army Jumpmaster Course.<\/p>\n


His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, and the Combat Infantryman\u2019s Badge, among many others.
As he steps into his new role at the National Guard Bureau, Martsching said he remains committed to mentoring future leaders and advancing the mission of the National Guard.<\/p>\n
