What began as a routine training jump from the back of a C-27J aircraft, quickly became a matter of life or death for one soldier. As he hung by the neck, unable to release himself from the harness, the response of his fellow Soldiers was crucial, and in this case, life-saving.

Chaplains and assistants from the Maryland Army National Guard, Maryland Air National Guard and Maryland Defense Force met for a 3-day conference and annual training at the Weinberg Center on Camp Fretterd Military Reservation, Md., Feb. 25-27.

Maryland Army National Guard soldiers from the 1st Squadron, 158th Cavalry Regiment, recently showed how quickly and efficiently they can project their capabilities during a weekend training mission to Puerto Rico.

Soldiers from the Maryland Army National Guard’s 253rd Engineer Company (Sapper) in La Plata, Md., spent their drill weekend training with a Mobile Training Team to become certified robot operators. The Jan. 12-13 drill weekend also included breeching doors, Modern Army Combatives and weapons familiarity.

The Maryland Army National Guard dedicated a newly expanded aviation facility, Dec. 13, to a highly decorated aviator, who was killed during the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

A Pearl Harbor Memorial Ceremony took place on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Taney in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor Dec. 7. The Taney is the last remaining vessel afloat that survived the attack on Pearl Harbor 71 years ago.

The Maryland National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 175th Infantry Regiment held its annual Pass in Review ceremony, concurrently celebrating the regiment’s 238th anniversary, at the Fifth Regiment Armory in Baltimore, Dec. 1.

A faith-based program started by a Maryland National Guard chaplain is gaining momentum and expanding nationwide as part of a Defense Department initiative to meet the needs of service members in all branches of the military.

Veterans and their Families were honored for their military service during an annual parade held in downtown Baltimore, Nov. 12.

Members from several Maryland Guard units are deployed to Crisfield Md., to assist local authorities with house-to-house evacuations on Oct. 30, 2012. The Servicemembers have been stationed in the area since Sunday performing 24-hour operations.
