What: The Maryland Freestate ChalleNGe Academy is scheduled to graduate 112 cadets from the 22-week quasi-military residential program for qualified at-risk youth. The academy is located on the Edgewood Area of Aberdeen Proving Ground. While enrolled in the ChalleNGe program, participants prepare to take the GED test and are introduced to many programs and concepts that are necessary for a successful and healthy lifestyle.

Administered by the Maryland National Guard, the program helps young adults acquire and refine the skills and strengths necessary to take more productive roles in our communities. The residential portion of the program is followed-up with a 12-month mentoring phase designed to help graduates adjust to the world of work and follow-on education. The Freestate ChalleNGe Academy was established in 1993 and has graduated more than 4,000 cadets since its inception.
