MDNG supports 58th Presidential Inauguration
More than 400 Maryland National Guard members are providing support to Joint Task Force-District of Columbia for the 58th Presidential Inauguration. The National Guard is providing support to local and federal civilian authorities for the inauguration. Maryland National Guard members will assist in monitoring traffic control points and facilitating crowd movements, as well as assisting in communication and cyber security for JTF-DC. Maryland National Guard members will provide similar functions that they did in both the 2009 and 2013 inaugurations.
Military support by Guard members dates back to 1798, when Gen. George Washington began his inaugural journey from Mount Vernon, Va., to New York City, N.Y. Local militias, forbearers of the National Guard, joined his inaugural procession as it passed through towns along the route.
