Soldiers and civilians from Aberdeen Proving Grounds connect with military youth during Military Day at Operation Purpleā€™s Northbay Adventure Camp in Elk Neck State Park, Maryland, on Aug. 16, 2016. Maj. Gen. Linda L. Singh, adjutant general of Maryland, speaks to the children about the challenges and sacrifices military families endure.

The Northbay Adventure Camp offers a free week of camp for military children ages 9-12. The children with a parent who recently deployed, or has a service related illness or injury post 9/11, have priority for enrollment. Soldiers and civilians set up stations with military themed activities for the children to cycle through. Activities include a red, white, and blue color run, a military helicopter tour and, a lesson on how to prepare and eat a Meal, Ready-To-Eat. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Spc. Nyia Patton)
