Gen. James A. Adkins, adjutant general of Maryland, announced the appointment of a new senior enlisted advisor for the Maryland National Guard on June 5, 2013.

Chief Master Sgt. Glenn D. Hart will replace Command Sgt. Maj. Brian Sann as the state’s most senior enlisted service member. Sann will retire later this summer after more than 30 years of service in the Maryland Army National Guard.

Hart brings 39 years of military experience in the Maryland Air National Guard to the top position. His nearly four decades of service include deployment in support of the Global War on Terrorism serving as the maintenance supervisor of a 31-person logistics support team for the first-ever United States Air Force C 130J deployment to Southwest Asia in 2004. In May 2006, he deployed to the United States Central Command area of operations, serving as maintenance supervisor for the 747th Aircraft Maintenance Unit and 379th Air Expeditionary Wing.

“Chief Hart will be an incredible asset to the senior enlisted advisor position,” said Adkins. “Over the decades, he has helped shape the Maryland National Guard into the great organization it is today.”

Hart graduated from Perry Hall High School in 1973 and joined the Maryland Air National Guard in 1974 as communication specialist. Since then, he has served in a variety of military leadership assignments including crew chief, section supervisor, flight chief and his current position as the Maryland Air National Guard state command chief, where he advises Brig Gen Allyson Solomon, assistant adjutant general-Air, on enlisted airman issues.
His many military decorations include the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one silver and one bronze oak leaf cluster, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with one silver and three bronze oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon with gold border. Additionally, Hart received the Air Force Crew Chief of the Year Award in 1995 and the Outstanding Wing Safety Initiative Award in 2000.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][/vc_column][/vc_row]
