{"id":28545,"date":"2024-04-24T07:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/?p=28545"},"modified":"2024-04-24T13:34:48","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T17:34:48","slug":"maryland-state-police-continue-search-for-calvert-county-boy-missing-since-1968","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/2024\/04\/24\/maryland-state-police-continue-search-for-calvert-county-boy-missing-since-1968\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland State Police Continue Search For Calvert County Boy Missing Since 1968"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>(PORT REPUBLIC, MD) \u2013 Maryland State Police are asking the public for assistance as investigators continue the search for a 10-year-old boy who was reported missing more than 55 years ago in Calvert County.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Boyes was last seen on Dec. 26, 1968, while walking home with his pet deer on Wash Hance Road in Port Republic. Hundreds of volunteers searched for Boyes by ground and air, combing the wooded area where he was last seen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;ll forever remember the response from the search team that Bobby disappeared in thin air, without a trace,\u201d said Joy Lee, Boyes\u2019 younger sister, who was three years old when he disappeared. \u201cHow does that happen? Walking home from the neighbor&#8217;s house with his pet deer. His deer comes home but without him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maryland State Police have led the investigation into Boyes\u2019 disappearance. The case turned cold after investigators ran out of leads. Detective Sergeant Kemery Hunt took over the investigation in 2021 shortly after being assigned to the Prince Frederick Barrack. He is hoping that attention to the case will spark new leads from the public.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve delved into this case deeply, and our plan of attack was to knock on every door that we can,\u201d Detective Sergeant Hunt said. \u201cThe original investigators also poured a tremendous amount of time into this case, but it\u2019s just a puzzle that can\u2019t be solved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=S0-MUnHkVuU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=S0-MUnHkVuU noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28560\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2024\/04\/Untitled.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2024\/04\/Untitled.png 680w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/13\/2024\/04\/Untitled-300x168.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The National Center for Missing &amp; Exploited Children and the FBI\u2019s Wanted and Missing Persons are assisting with the investigation. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.missingkids.org\/ourwork\/impact\">National Center for Missing &amp; Exploited Children<\/a>, the FBI recorded nearly 360,000 entries of missing children in 2022, which is about a 6% increase from 2021. The center also assisted with nearly 28,000 cases of missing children in 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Maryland State Police, in partnership with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) and the NOBLE Maryland Chapter, are distributing 15,000\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/childidprogram.com\/?fbclid=IwAR2-K-pdlFb1n6ZZB4K4Gj3r036Xug_jVITFhnmZN4qsKCvuMj1KK-GJxsg\">National Child ID Program<\/a>\u00a0kits to protect children. The free kits aid law enforcement in locating missing persons. Visit a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mdsp.maryland.gov\/Organization\/Pages\/FieldOperationsBureau\/allbarracks.aspx?fbclid=IwAR3lOiuliHwfeymtgqSs5ip2h8eGWBjOAlCRg2m8iKI19fkFoBQNJ5yj3LE\">Maryland State Police barrack<\/a>\u00a0to obtain a kit.
