{"id":25958,"date":"2022-10-10T14:32:39","date_gmt":"2022-10-10T18:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/?p=25958"},"modified":"2022-10-10T14:32:46","modified_gmt":"2022-10-10T18:32:46","slug":"maryland-state-police-arrest-seven-people-after-protests-shut-down-i-495-in-montgomery-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/2022\/10\/10\/maryland-state-police-arrest-seven-people-after-protests-shut-down-i-495-in-montgomery-county\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland State Police Arrest Seven People After Protests Shut Down I-495 In Montgomery County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>(ROCKVILLE, MD) \u2013 Maryland State Police arrested seven people after a group of protestors shut down a portion of Interstate 495 this morning in Montgomery County.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly before 10:30 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Rockville Barrack responded to inner loop of I-495 at U.S. Route 29 following multiple calls of protestors dressed in neon vests holding signs and blocking the road. According to a preliminary investigation, more than 10 pedestrians were sitting in the road and blocking all lanes of traffic. Several other protestors were walking around and holding signs.<\/p>\n<p>Troopers from the Rockville and College Park barracks, with assistance from Montgomery County Police, asked the protestors multiple times to leave so they could be issued a criminal citation. After several warnings, those who did not comply were arrested without incident.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0In all, seven people were arrested at the scene. During the protest, traffic was diverted off the beltway until the road could be cleared. The interstate was reopened by 11:15 a.m. All seven people arrested were charged with obstructing or hindering the free passage of another in a public place or on a public conveyance and failing to obey law enforcement officer who attempts to prevent a disturbance to the public peace.<\/p>\n<p>The suspects were identified as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Robert Achison, 74, of Vermont<\/li>\n<li>William Regan, 43, of Oregon<\/li>\n<li>Nora Swisher, 32, of Maryland<\/li>\n<li>Mary Osterbrink, 68, of North Carolina<\/li>\n<li>Andrew Hinz, 61, of Maryland<\/li>\n<li>Holley White, 58, of New York<\/li>\n<li>Jason Goward, 38, of Michigan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those arrested were transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center for processing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>###<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CONTACT:<strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Office of Media Communications \u2013 <a href=\"mailto:msp.media@maryland.gov\">msp.media@maryland.gov<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(ROCKVILLE, MD) \u2013 Maryland State Police arrested seven people after a group of protestors shut down a portion of Interstate 495 this morning in Montgomery County.
