{"id":18789,"date":"2020-07-03T15:01:44","date_gmt":"2020-07-03T19:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/?p=18789"},"modified":"2020-07-03T15:01:44","modified_gmt":"2020-07-03T19:01:44","slug":"maryland-state-police-investigate-two-suspected-impaired-driving-crashes-in-same-area-in-less-than-three-hours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/msp\/2020\/07\/03\/maryland-state-police-investigate-two-suspected-impaired-driving-crashes-in-same-area-in-less-than-three-hours\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland State Police Investigate Two Suspected Impaired Driving Crashes In Same Area In Less Than Three Hours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(FREDERICK, MD) &#8212; Maryland State Police are investigating two separate suspected impaired driving crashes that occurred in the same area in less than three hours last night, one of which claimed the life of a 54 year old man from Kentucky.<\/p>\n<p>Maryland state troopers from the Frederick Barrack were dispatched to the report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a Jeep Renegade on northbound I-270 near the 28 mile marker at 8:30 p.m. last night.\u00a0 Several witnesses observed a black Jeep strike the motorcycle and flee the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The deceased victim is identified as Joshua Teskey, 54, of Louisville, Kentucky.\u00a0 Teskey was operating a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was transported by medevac to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center where he succumbed to his injuries early this morning. Autopsy results are pending examination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Jeep is identified as Brandon Alas Roque, 23, of Brunswick, Maryland. As a result of the crash, Roque\u2019s Jeep became disabled. Troopers located him a few miles from the scene at a gas\u00a0 station on Route 85, Buckeystown Pike. \u00a0Roque was taken into police custody for the investigation.\u00a0 Troopers are investigating whether alcohol, speed and\/or distraction were contributing factors in this crash. Charges are pending consultation with the Frederick County State\u2019s Attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after 11:00 p.m., as troopers and personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation\/CHART were clearing the area from the motorcycle crash, a 2002 Cadillac Escalade traveled down the embankment to the right of the lane closures. Troopers observed the Cadillac Escalade strike five vehicles that were traveling on the shoulder. The Cadillac then hit the guardrail before overturning onto the right shoulder where the vehicle came to rest. One of the vehicles struck by the Cadillac was propelled into the lane closure where troopers and Chart personnel were investigating the motorcycle crash.<\/p>\n<p>State police and EMS providers immediately rushed to the overturned Cadillac to render aid.\u00a0 The passenger identified as Alexander Alfaro Amaya, 21, of Gaithersburg, was transported by ambulance to Frederick Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. No other injuries were reported on the scene.<\/p>\n<p>The driver of the Cadillac Escalade is identified as Steven Alfaro Amaya, 20, of Gaithersburg. Amaya \u00a0was uninjured and refused medical treatment at the scene.\u00a0 Troopers on the scene detected signs of impairment.\u00a0 Amaya was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence and transported to the Frederick Barrack for processing.\u00a0 Additional charges are pending consultation with the Frederick County State\u2019s Attorney.<\/p>\n<p>Assistance at both scenes was provided by Frederick County fire\/EMS units.\u00a0 MDOT State Highway Administration and CHART personnel responded to assist with lane closures.
