Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash in Anne Arundel County

(ANNAPOLIS, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash on Sunday evening in Anne Arundel County.

The pedestrian, a 32-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene by personnel from Anne Arundel County Emergency Medical Services. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Troopers from the Annapolis Barrack responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, 2024, for a report of a crash on northbound Solomons Island Road at Route 50. According to a preliminary investigation, an unmarked 2016 Ford Explorer from the Maryland State Police was traveling north on Solomons Island Road when it struck a pedestrian, who unexpectedly entered the roadway. There is no crosswalk at the crash site.

The driver, a trooper with the Maryland State Police, immediately rendered first aid to the pedestrian and requested additional assistance. The trooper was not injured in the crash.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures. The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Maryland State Police Crash Team. Once the investigation is completed, it will be presented to the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Maryland State Police will also conduct an administrative review of the case as protocol.
