Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash In Montgomery County

(ROCKVILLE, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in which one person died and nine others were injured late Tuesday evening in Montgomery County.

Shortly before 11:45 p.m., the Rockville Barrack received numerous calls for a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 270, near Rockledge Drive. According to a preliminary investigation, a white Mercedes SUV, driven by Jayleen Hannor, 23, of Macon, Georgia, continued southbound in the northbound lanes of I-270, to the outer loop of I-495.

The Mercedes eventually crashed into two other vehicles – a Lexus and a Nissan Pathfinder – in the area of I-495 at Maryland Route 355. Five adults in the Lexus were injured and transported by ambulance to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Two adults and three children were injured in the Nissan. The driver of the Nissan, a female, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where she was declared deceased. Her identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The outerloop of I-495 was closed following the crash.

According to a preliminary investigation, Hannor fled the scene after the crash. He was taken into custody a short time later and was transported to the Rockville Barrack. Charges are pending in the case. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation. Montgomery County Police assisted at the scene while the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with the road closure.
