Maryland State Police Arrest Known Gang Member In Frederick County

(THURMONT, MD) – Maryland State Police arrested a known gang member on an open warrant and who was also found to be in possession of a firearm Tuesday morning in Frederick County.

The suspect, Richard John Haslup, 32, of Thurmont, Maryland was arrested on an open violation of probation warrant by troopers from the Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division — Firearms Enforcement Unit. As part of their investigation, troopers served a search and seizure warrant on a residence on Catoctin Furnace Road in Thurmont, Maryland and recovered several firearms. Haslup is a known Dead Man Incorporated (DMI) gang member and is prohibited by Maryland law from possessing firearms.

Troopers transported Haslup to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office pending service of the violation of probation warrant. Additional firearm charges are pending a review of the case with the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office.

This case highlights the State Police goal of helping to prevent and investigate multi-jurisdictional crime while supporting allied law enforcement agencies across Maryland. The Maryland State Police Criminal Enforcement Division – Firearms Enforcement Unit is committed to supporting Governor Hogan’s efforts to reduce gun violence.  The Firearms Enforcement Unit consists of sworn troopers who are tasked with working throughout the state to identify those illegally in possession of firearms and infiltrating and dismantling criminal organizations perpetuating firearm-related violence.
