Maryland State Police Investigate Fatal Crash In Garrett County

(McHENRY, MD) – Maryland State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal two-vehicle crash today in Garrett County.

The victim has been identified as Margaret Stutzman, 54, of Baltimore, Maryland.  She was the driver and sole occupant of a Chevy Cruz. No one else was reported injured in the crash.

According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 10 a.m. today, troopers from the Maryland State Police McHenry Barrack responded to a report of a fatal crash on US 219, in the area of Aiken Miller Road near Accident, Md. When troopers arrived, Garrett County fire and EMS personnel were on the scene. EMS officials declared one person deceased at the scene. The victim, Stutzman, had been ejected from the vehicle.

According to a preliminary investigation, a tractor-trailer was traveling south on US 219 when, for unknown reasons, the victim’s vehicle crossed over the center median and crashed into the tractor-trailer head-on. The tractor-trailer driver is identified as Gary Suder, 39, of Bedford, Pa. He reported no injury.

As a result of the crash, northbound and southbound US 219 in the area of Aiken Miller Road was closed and traffic was detoured around the scene. Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration personnel assisted with clean-up of a fuel spill at the crash scene and troopers from the McHenry Barrack assisted with the lane closures and detour. The Maryland State Police Crash Team and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division are assisting with the investigation into the cause of the crash.
