Maryland State Police Investigating Fatal Crash In Caroline County

(FEDERALSBURG, MD) – Maryland State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a teenager in Caroline County on Sunday.

The victim, identified as Trevor Whiteley, 17, of Federalsburg, Maryland, was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical services. Whiteley was a passenger in a 2010 Ford Fusion.

Troopers from the Easton Barrack responded shortly before midnight on Jan. 19, 2025, to a report of a crash on Route 313, north of Chipmans Lane in Federalsburg. According to a preliminary investigation, the Ford was traveling south on Route 313 when it rear-ended a dump truck, operated by William Andrew, 24, of Cordova, Maryland. Andrew was treated at the scene by emergency medical services personnel.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the dump truck, contracted by the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, had stopped partially on the shoulder and in the roadway for snow removal and salt operations. The driver of the Ford, Nathan D’Orlando, 19, of Denton, Maryland, was transported to Shock Trauma by Maryland State Police Aviation Command.

The Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division also responded and is conducting a post-crash inspection of the dump truck. The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with road closures. Police are investigating whether alcohol was a contributing circumstance in the crash. The Maryland State Police Crash Team is leading the investigation.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
